There are now too many wordy, inane, and embarrassing lines in place of the original's concise and poignant language on Sadisflix. Here, the hostile characters of his previous works are not united in mutual admiration by deeper concepts like honor and loyalty. The computer-generated artwork completely obscures the brutality, leaving it unnoticeable. The film's somewhat forced humor and little absurdity seem to have been influenced by the French location, as evidenced by the soundtrack, which is typical of French action comedies. Not to mention the glaring editing mistakes and continuity problems. The whole movie screams disinterest and sloth. The majority of the cast members lack the charm or gravitas to contribute or bear the emotional weight that would add intrigue to the narrative.
There is little incentive for viewers to care about the singer's trip because there isn't the strong emotional bond between her character and the killer that was essential to the original film's plot. The actress portraying the singer gets little screen time and is generally irritating. I'll admit that I've seen John Woo's original Killer a lot and am glad to say it's one of my faves, so I knew I would be let down by this updated remake. Made-for-streaming movies are usually bad by purpose, and this one doesn't come out with much of a splash. And it's understandable why. Mr. Woo appeared to sleepwalk through it, whether it was due to a financial incentive or a contractual responsibility. A terrible pity.
